ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Maria Lisa Eastman
Hyattville, WY
Maria Lisa Eastman hails from the village of Hyattville, WY, pop. +/-100. She and her husband operate the Oxbow Ranch, a small hay and cattle operation that is known affectionately as The Little Outfit. She's always been horse-crazy, and has worked with horses and their people for over fifty years. Years ago, while riding a colt out in the foothills of New Mexico, she asked him which grasses he liked best, and was so intrigued by his answer that she began stuffing range grasses in her saddlebags to take home and try to figure out for herself. From there, she ended up with a degree in range & watershed management, discovering that that there actually are people who will pay you to count grass. In 2018, Maria Lisa published a collection of her poetry, "Regarding the Others," and is working on a manuscript all about horses and horse people, "Horse Nation."
Dick Gibford
New Cuyama, CA
Dick Gibford was raised on a small cow outfit on the central coast of California and, at age 13, began starting two-year-old colts for his dad. Upon graduation from high school in 1968, Dick left for Tuscarora, Nevada, where he rode for Willis Packer as a “rep” on the 25 Wagon. He has been influenced in every facet of his life by that first experience as a “sagebrush buckaroo.” These days, he cowboys out of an isolated cow camp for the Walking R Ranch in Maricopa, California. He also makes slick fork saddles, braids rawhide, paints, and starts an occasional colt. In 2013, Dick released "Trail Dust," a limited-edition, hand-bound book of poetry and real-life stories about his packing experiences.
Dave Stamey
Orange Cove, CA
Dave Stamey has been a cowboy, a mule packer, and a dude wrangler. Now, he is one of the most popular western entertainers working today. Dave has made it his life's work to celebrate the rural American West. In the past two decades, he has recorded 11 albums of original music, traveled hundreds of thousands of miles, and performed thousands of shows doing just that. His songs capture the life of the modern cowboy in a world of rapid transition, where some things change constantly and some things never change at all. He lives in the farthest northeastern corner of Tulare County, where the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains begin just outside his back door.
