ABOUT THE ARTIST
Bruce Simpson
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Bruce Simpson is originally from western Queensland. He was a drover in the last of the long overland musters which, in Australia, died out in the 1950s, nearly a century after the long cattle drives ceased in the U.S. When road trains took over the job, Bruce retired to make stockman saddles in the little town of Winton. There he compiled poems written about his days herding cattle in the outback, He was awarded the Bronze Swagman award for his poems, which are thought to be some of the finest of the contemporary bush verse. He now lives lives near Brisbane, Queensland with his wife and children.
